FIRES IN RAWLINGS, MOUNT SAVAGE OVER THE WEEKEND

Two fires, displacing tenants in Rawlings and Mount Savage were reported this past weekend. In the Rawlings fire, the tenants of five apartments were displaced, and Route 220 was closed for several hours while firefighters battled the blaze. The building, owned by Michael Rankin, was valued at $300,000. Fire officials say it started on the rear deck. In Mount Savage, three people escaped injury and were displaced Thursday evening, in a fire at 16425 Calla Hill Road. The state fire marshal’s office estimated damages at $60,000 to the home and $50,000 to its contents. About 65 firefighters were on the scene for an hour and 45 minutes, following the initial call at 8:25 p.m.
