DISMISSAL OF OBJECTIONS TO BRIDGE PLAN REQUESTED

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources supports a Garrett County Commission plan to build a parallel bridge to the existing Swallow Falls Road bridge, while the original span is under construction. Many consider it to be a waste of taxpayer dollars, because the road can be closed while the original bridge is being replaced; this would help preserve the delicate ecosystem in the Wild Yough corridor, according to the Cumberland Times-News. Steve Storck, who owns property in the area, has asked the Garrett County Circuit Court to reverse an exception to environmental protections that would allow the new bridge to be constructed, while the original bridge is being rehabilitated.
