WEST VA. BOARD DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY

The West Virginia State Board of Education has declared a state of emergency in Hampshire County Schools; the board says it’s because of “incomplete” services for students in special education. A September review by the Department of Education’s Office of Accountability showed there was a lack of progress on a targeted improvement plan, developed by the state’s Office of Special Education over a three-year period. Hampshire County schools will be given six months to work with he state to develop a plan; if no progress is shown, the issue will be brought before the state Board of Education to determine if additional steps need to be taken.
