JUSTICE DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has declared a state of emergency for Hardy, Pendleton, Grant and Hampshire counties, because of the forest fires in those areas. Three of the largest fires were burning in Hardy County, as of last night. Hardy County Schools are closed today.  The Grace Mountain Fire was estimated to be between 600 to 700 acres, while the Moore Run Fire was just over a thousand acres. The winds have died down, but the relative humidity remained low, under sunny skies and dry conditions. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the wildfires, which could have been caused by anything from downed power lines, to burning debris, which could have burned out of control.
