JUSTICE UNAWARE OF LIENS PLACED ON GREENBRIER RESORT

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice said on Wednesday that he did not know state tax officials had placed liens on the historic Greenbrier Resort. The governor told reporters at his weekly briefing at the Capitol that he knew nothing about seven notices of tax lien filed by the state. These were for consumer sales, use, and withholding taxes owed the state, with penalties and interest totaling more than three-point-five million dollars. Justice purchased the Greenbrier in 2009, and his daughter, Jill Justice has operated the resort since he took office in 2017. Further, First Lady Cathy Justice serves as operations advisor. Justice said if the information is correct the outstanding tax should be paid.
