LEGISLATION WOULD LET STUDENT ATHLETES OPT OUT OF GYM CLASS

The Senate Education Committee has approved legislation that would let school districts allow student athletes to opt out of gym class. Senate Bill 454 would let students satisfy their P-E requirements through their participation in interscholastic sports instead. Senator Cris Dush, a Republican from Jefferson County, says he hopes his measure will let student athletes have more time to pursue advanced placement classes, which he says could help them meet their educational goals faster. The bill is on its way to the full state Senate for consideration.
