Thousands of people throughout Maryland experienced a strong smell of smoke on Wednesday. Officials say the smoke and haze were because of brush fires in the Shenandoah Mountain Ridge. Several counties were listed under a red flag warning yesterday because of the high risk of fire. The smoky smell has since settled down but windy conditions will continue into the weekend.
