Maryland U.S. Senate candidate David Trone is apologizing for using a racial slur during a congressional budget hearing. In a statement, the Maryland congressman said he attempted to use the word ‘bugaboo,’ but mistakenly said the racial slur instead.Trone said the word he used has a long, dark, terrible history, and it should never be used any time, anywhere, in any conversation.” He added, “I recognize that as a white man, I have privilege. And as an elected official, I have a responsibility for the words I use. Regardless of what I meant to say, I shouldn’t have used that language.”
