U.S. D.O.T. AWARDS MARYLAND $1.6 MILLION FOR WORK ZONE SAFETY STUDY

The Maryland Department of Transportation has been awarded a one-point-six-million-dollar federal grant to conduct a technology-based work zone safety study. The funding will advance the State Highway Administration study of work zone speed management by using drones, roadside sensors and other data. Because drones offer a bird’s-eye view, they can provide early warnings about traffic congestion and bottlenecks to help officials make real-time safety adjustments.  The SHA will be focusing on work zones along I-695 and conduct the study in collaboration with the University of Maryland.
