DR. CAREY WRIGHT APPOINTED AS MARYLAND STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

The Maryland State Board of Education has voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Carey Wright as the next Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Wright has served as interim superintendent since the resignation of Mohammed Choudhury in October. Wright has worked as a teacher, principal, director of special education and associate superintendent at schools in Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.  She most recently served for nine years as the state superintendent of schools in Mississippi. Wright obtained her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Wright’s four-year term as superintendent will begin July 1st with a salary of 360-thousand-500-dollars a year.
