Former Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins has been elected the next chair of the Bedford County Republican Committee. Serving as District Attorney from 2004 to 2018, Higgins was charged with misconduct related to trading lighter sentence recommendations for sexual favors from drug dealers and their friends. To avoid jail time, Higgins pleaded guilty to the charges.
