A Maryland State Police trooper was taken to UPMC-Western Maryland Sunday evening after his patrol vehicle was hit by a Michigan resident, who was later determined to be driving under the influence. Omar Tellez Gonzalez was charged after he hit the vehicle, which was parked on the left shoulder of Interstate 68 westbound, near Exit 14, with its lights activated. Investigators believe speed and impaired driving were factors. All lanes of I-68 were closed for more than two hours following the accident, which happened just before 11 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.
