Cumberland resident Gerald Michael Sassono has been charged with first and second-degree assault, following an incident in the parklet at Frederick and Centre Streets in Cumberland on Monday. The victim gave police a description of the suspect and a possible weapon, a “sock containing a rock.” The Cumberland Times-News notes that Sassono was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $2500 bond.
