MD. A.G. JOINS COALITION URGING COURT TO BLOCK TENNESSEE ABORTION LAW

Maryland’s Anthony Brown joins a coalition of 20 attorneys general in a lawsuit challenging a law that makes it a crime for adults to help minors seek reproductive health care outside of Tennessee due to that state’s near-total abortion ban. In filing an amicus brief with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the coalition argues that the Tennessee law endangers the health of minors and threatens the ability of other states to help them access lawful abortion care. Brown says Tennessee’s law is an unconstitutional attempt to criminalize legal conduct beyond its borders. Tennessee’s abortion laws are among the most restrictive in the nation.
