The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration is reminding drivers that it will never send you a text message demanding payment for outstanding citations or fees. The reminder comes as a new scam has been showing up on thousands of people’s phones where a text about an outstanding traffic ticket threatens various penalties if payment isn’t made through a link provided. I-T gurus say the text looks legit as the formatting is tight, there are no spelling errors and the link address isn’t too phony looking. The big tip-offs that the message is fake, which can slide by a lot of people, are that it emanates from a foreign number and the agency is referred to as the DMV instead of the MVA as it’s known in Maryland. Delete those texts.
