VAN HOLLEN CALLS AIRSTRIKES “A VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION”

Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen has issued a statement following Saturday’s U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.  Van Hollen says President Trump said he would end wars and now he has dragged America into one. Van Hollen says the president’s actions are a clear violation of the Constitution – ignoring the requirement that only Congress has the authority to declare war.  The Democrat says while everyone agrees that Iran must not have nuclear weapons, Trump abandoned diplomatic efforts to achieve that goal. He says Trump chose to unnecessarily endanger American lives, further threaten U.S. armed forces in the region, and risk pulling America into another long Middle East conflict.
