JUDGE SKEPTICAL OF TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LAWSUIT

A federal judge from Virginia is questioning the Trump administration’s case against all 15 federal judges in Maryland over a deportation delay order. Judge Thomas Cullen, brought in to avoid conflicts of interest, said he was skeptical the lawsuit had legal standing. The order, issued in May, automatically pauses deportations for two days when a detainee requests a review, a move Maryland judges say protects due process. Homeland Security argues the rule unlawfully slows removals, especially of dangerous criminals. Cullen is expected to decide by Labor Day whether the case will move forward.
