Maryland Governor Wes Moore has declared a state of emergency and released ten million dollars to help food banks as SNAP benefits are set to halt this weekend. Moore says the federal shutdown has created a “human-made disaster,” leaving 680-thousand Marylanders at risk of losing food assistance. Speaking at the Anne Arundel County Food Bank in Crownsville, the governor criticized President Trump’s administration for refusing to use federal contingency funds to keep SNAP going. Moore says the state will support food banks but won’t use rainy day funds to fund SNAP without a guarantee of federal reimbursement.
