West Virginia announced two new natural gas-fired power plants within one week, marking a historic opportunity for the state’s energy sector. First Energy will construct a 12-hundred-megawatt natural gas combined cycle power plant set to operate by 2031. Additionally, Kindle Energy, Blackstone, and GE Vernova announced a joint venture for a one-point-two-billion-dollar gas-fired plant in Harrison County producing 675-megawatts with no state funding required. Office of Energy Director Nick Preservati says the projects will create thousands of construction jobs, generate property tax and severance tax revenue, and help lower electricity rates.
