Maryland Representative April McClain Delaney says when disaster strikes, every minute counts and that’s why she’s introduced the Emergency Alert Grant Fairness Act. The legislation would ensure that FEMA’s Next Generation Warning System can operate as intended and directly support local public broadcasters. She says when Western Maryland experienced devastating flooding in May, emergency alerts played an essential role in delivering life-saving information. The bill calls for extending the application window for FEMA grants to 30 days, allowing local broadcasters to receive necessary support for emergency alerts.
