State Public Service Commission Chairman Charlotte Lane says she will not vote to close any coal-fired power plants in West Virginia. Lane told lawmakers yesterday that no one is currently asking the PSC to do so. She says the economic impact of those plants on the state’s economy means it would not be in West Virginia’s best interest to shut them down. Lane says there’s panic in some states where they don’t have enough power generation, and she doesn’t want West Virginia to get close to that situation. She’s hopeful nuclear will one day be a viable option, but says until then the state needs to keep coal plants running to 2050 or beyond.
