Federal funding, in the amount of $500,000, has been granted to the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority, for sediment testing and remediation efforts in the North Branch of the Potomac River. This is the next step in removal of the Cumberland Industrial Dam for the proposed river park project. According to the Cumberland Times-News, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will administer the funding and will contact the Authority within the next several weeks to initiate the process for accessing the funding.
