One of Stephanie Roper’s killers has been denied his request to be released from a life sentence. Jerry Beatty, who was 17-years-old at the time of Roper’s murder,. and will be 61 this month, in 2024 asked Anne Arundel County Circuit Court to release him from a life sentence, based on the 2021 Juvenile Restoration Act. That allows defendants who were minors at the time of their offense to ask for a reduced sentence, after they serve 20 years in prison, according to the Cumberland Times-News. Ms. Roper was 22-years-old at the time and a student at Frostburg State University.
