The Third Grade Success Act goes into effect this school year, and Kanawha County officials want parents ready. House Bill 3035, passed in 2023, aims to make sure students read at grade level and know basic math by the end of third grade. The school board heard an update yesterday from Assistant Superintendent Amanda Mays, and every parent of a third grader received a letter. Board member Mike Arbogast says research does not support holding kids back.
