First District Republican Representative Andy Harris and Democratic challenger Dan Schwartz met for their only debate before the November 3rd election on Tuesday. During the event in Cambridge, both candidates opposed the statewide ballot question on redistricting. Harris says, if Question Three passes, the Eastern Shore will always be ruled by a Western Shore politician who does not have the watermen, farmers, poultry industry or tourism industry top on their mind. The Baltimore Banner reports that when Harris supported work requirements for government healthcare, Schwartz said Congress has been on so much vacation this year that they have not even worked enough to meet those requirements. At one point, Harris claimed Democrats were to blame for high gas prices, and the audience laughed, prompting him to tell an attendee she was rude for interrupting him.
