Last week, the Maryland House of Delegates discussed the Maryland Road Worker Protection Act, which proposes increasing automated speed enforcement fines from 40-dollars to 290-dollars. The bill, introduced by Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, aims to improve safety in work zones following a fatal 2023 crash. A delay was granted to address concerns about flashing lights on automated cameras during the night. The legislation also seeks to provide greater enforcement flexibility by eliminating the need for manned cameras.
