Governor Larry Hogan has expressed frustration with, and has apologized for, issues faced by Maryland residents filing for unemployment on a new online portal. Noting that the contractor who developed the site has fallen short “of the high standards the state has set,” and that “the people of Maryland deserve better, and the buck stops with me.” Since the website launched on Friday, more than 245,000 Marylanders have activated accounts; more than 100,000 new unemployment claims have been filled. There are 33 accounts registered every minute and 780 successful claims made every hour.
