SOMERSET D.A. HAS PAY, BENEFITS SUSPENDED

Somerset County District Attorney Jeff Thomas has had both his pay and benefits suspended, following a vote by the county commissioners and treasurer there. The suspension is a move to comply with the recently state-approved ACT 88, which prevents elected prosecutors from overseeing their offices without an active law license. Earlier in the fall, the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board acted to have Thomas’ law license suspended, until “further definitive action” by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Thomas faces a number of sexual assault counts, and he plans to fight them in court.
