Maryland students will continue to wear face masks in public schools for the time being. The Maryland State Board of Education held a virtual meeting on school masking Wednesday and decided that it would draw up another emergency masking regulation. The current mandate is set to expire on February 25, however the board wants to give local districts more flexibility with “off-ramps” for meeting certain metrics. The board says it is prepared to consider vaccination and COVID-19 transmission rates in deciding whether mask requirements can be lifted. The next board meeting is scheduled for December 7.
