It wasn’t exactly what Allegany County Commission President Jake Shade wanted, but the commissioners agreed to a reduction in the income tax rate, or “piggyback tax,” during last night’s meeting. The commissioners are reducing the tax from 3.05 per cent to 3.03 per cent. This represents a $200,000 loss of revenue for the county. The reduction was made possible by a projected budget surplus of $4.2 million for Fiscal Year 2023.
