Maryland U.S. Senator Ben Cardin is reacting to Republican legislation that would impose a federal ban on abortion. Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill would ban abortion after 15 weeks except in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the health of the mother. The Democratic Cardin says lawmakers who cheered the Supreme Court after the Dobbs decision and said states should decide the future of legal abortion — need to be held accountable. Cardin says a federal ban goes against the clear will of voters in Maryland and other states. Cardin says bans and criminalization will not stop abortion, they only will make it more dangerous.
