COX CAMPAIGN COMMENTS ON MAIL-IN BALLOT RULING

The Maryland Court of Appeals has ruled that local jurisdictions can count mail-in ballots before election day.  The decision upholds a lower court’s ruling granting the State Board of Elections request to begin an early canvass to avoid delayed results. Republican Dan Cox, who is running for governor, tried to block the move citing a state law that does not allow mail-in counts until two-days after the election.  He’s calling on all local jurisdictions to count the mail-in votes according to Maryland law – as written. Some local boards have already decided to wait.
