ARCHDIOCESE ISSUES STATEMENT ON ABUSE REPORT

Baltimore’s Archbishop has sent a letter to the Archdiocese after Maryland’s Attorney General filed a motion to allow the public release of a child sex abuse investigation.  The four-year investigation found more than 600 victims in the Archdiocese, 115 priests and brothers who were prosecuted and 43 who were accused dating back 80-years. Archbishop William Lori apologized for the past wrongdoings of the Church, saying there is a renewed feeling of shame, deep remorse and heartfelt sympathy for those who suffered. Lori says for decades the Archdiocese has fully complied with the church’s protection efforts including the reporting of all allegations to police, permanent bans of anyone credibly accused of abuse, extensive screening, the offer of counseling and open communication about credible allegations.
