G.O.P. LEADERS WANT MAY VOTE FOR STATE HOUSE VACANCIES, DEMOCRATS WANT FEBRUARY VOTE

Pennsylvania’s House Republican leader has submitted paperwork seeking to wait until the May primary before holding special elections in two vacant districts. It’s the latest move in a power struggle over control of the nearly evenly-divided state chamber. GOP leader Bryan Cutler of Lancaster County submitted “writs of election” for the seats that are now vacant, due to Democrats resigning after being elected to Congress and as lieutenant governor. Cutler’s counterpart, Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton, has moved to schedule all three special elections for February.
