A new surveillance camera system will be installed on the downtown Cumberland Mall this spring to insure the safety of business owners and customers, and to send a message. The Executive Director of the Cumberland Economic Development corporation, Matt Miller, says there will be 11 mountable cameras, along with 16 “Ring” cameras to be given to individual business owners who request them. The system also has license plate identification capability. The equipment was obtained using a $100,000 Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development grant.
