MARYLAND CIVIL WAR BATTLEFIELD GETTING PRESERVATION FUNDS

A Maryland Civil War battlefield is getting grant money for preservation efforts.  The National Park Service says Antietam National Battlefield in Washington County will receive more than 122-thousand dollars from the Battlefield Land Acquisition Grant program.  The Battle of Antietam was the first army-level engagement in the Civil War to take place on Union soil.  It remains the bloodiest day of combat in American history, with a combined tally of more than 22-thousand dead, wounded or missing.
