The Federal Bureau of Prisons announced the closure of the Kennedy minimum security prison in Morgantown. The facility, which has about 400 inmates and 150 workers, will transfer operations to the Hazelton maximum security prison. Senator Shelley Moore Capito expressed concerns about the sudden closure and lack of congressional notification. The prison, originally dedicated in 1968, will take approximately nine months to complete the closure process. The FBOP cited staffing shortages and budgetary constraints as reasons for the closure.
