The planned shutdown of the Job Corps centers in Luzerne and Sullivan counties in Pennsylvania at the end of the month is being put on hold. The National Job Corps Association announced yesterday that a federal judge has granted a national preliminary injunction to halt the closures across the country that were directed by the U.S. Department of Labor. The department claims the program, which offers free education and vocational training along with housing for disadvantaged young people aged 16 to 24, “is no longer achieving its intended outcomes.” The National Job Corps Association said the injunction will provide “immediate stability” to students and staff, but acknowledged it doesn’t give them “finality.”
