Maryland joins 19 other states in suing the Trump administration for its attempt to collect personal and sensitive information from SNAP recipients. Attorney General Brown and the coalition argue that the demands violate a number of federal privacy laws and fail to meet procedural requirements for that type of action. In addition, Brown and the others say the move exceeds the USDA’s statutory authority and violates the Spending Clause. The coalition is asking the court to declare the administration’s demands unlawful and block the administration from enforcing them.
