Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is weighing-in on current Governor Wes Moore’s redistricting advisory panel. Hogan says he created the state’s first truly independent Citizens Redistricting Commission that earned top grades from the Princeton Gerrymandering Project and FiveThirtyEight. He says his goal was not to elect more Republicans – it was to ensure that Marylanders could choose their representatives instead of politicians choosing their voters. He says Moore’s partisan redistricting advisory panel puts that progress at risk. Hogan also says to his credit, Democratic Senate President Bill Ferguson has called mid-cycle redistricting dangerous and warned it could cause catastrophic instability, adding that redistricting should never be used as a political weapon.
