The Archbishop of Washington will have surgery to treat a non-aggressive form of cancer. Cardinal Robert McElroy announced his cancer diagnosis to priests at the Archdiocese of Washington on Tuesday. The 71-year-old asked for prayers and said he plans to resume his duties shortly after the surgery, which is scheduled for November 13th. McElroy was appointed to his current role in January and took over for Cardinal Wilton Gregory in March.
