West Virginia State School Superintendent Michele Blatt says West Virginia schools have lost two-point-five percent of their students in just the past year. The state’s student enrollment now stands at 234,957 students. That’s down more than six-thousand students in the previous year, and nearly 251-thousand students back in 2021 and 2022. The ongoing loss of students has triggered a wave of school closures across the state, with counties like Roane, Barbour, and Randolph all closing or consolidating schools this year.
