STATE WORKERS IN W.V. FACE HEALTH INSURANCE COST INCREASES

The Public Employee Insurance Agency is considering a three-percent increase in monthly premiums for state workers for the 2027 plan year, along with a 200-dollar monthly spousal surcharge increase.  If approved, these increases take effect next July, following increases of 14 percent just last July.  Education West Virginia co-president Dale Lee says teachers have experienced a 54 percent total increase over three years, reducing their earning power significantly.  Public school teachers in West Virginia average just over fifty-thousand dollars annually, ranking the state 15th out of 51 in teacher pay nationwide.
