Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a Washington County house fire that claimed three lives early Tuesday. Two women and a man died in the pre-dawn fire on National Pike east of Clear Spring. Multiple fire companies responded to the home between Shady Bower Lane and St. Paul Road but despite the rapid and coordinated response of nearly 60 firefighters and support personnel the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Two family dogs were rescued from the home, and the Humane Society of Washington County is caring for them.
