TEN INDICTED IN JESSUP PRISON SMUGGLING SCHEMES

State officials have indicted ten people in three smuggling plots uncovered at Jessup Correctional Institution. Prosecutors say corrections sergeant Awungjia Rita Atabong took cash to bring in drugs, phones, and other contraband for four inmates, and police later found thousands of drug-filled pills at her home. A prison educator, Lakesha Murry, is also accused of sneaking items to students in exchange for money and luxury goods. A third case involves officer Kathyrn Hawes, who was arrested at work while allegedly carrying contraband for an inmate. All three employees were released pending trial as the troubled facility faces renewed scrutiny.
