The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is investigating the inmate death of Omar Valdez- Grandos at NBCI Monday. He was found unresponsive on the floor of his cell; his cellmate was also in the cell at the time of his death. This is the third homicide at the maximum security prison this year; a total of five homicides were reported in 2025, according to the Cumberland Times-News. Valdez-Grandos was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, and results of the investigation will be presented to the Office of the Allegany County State’s Attorney.
