TEACHER,  BAND DIRECTOR INDICTED

Derek Lindon Shank, a teacher and the band director at Mountain Ridge High School, has been indicted on charges stemming from the alleged sexual abuse of a minor, according to Maryland Court documents. The Cumberland Times-News states Shank was indicted June 18th by an Allegany County grand jury. The alleged crimes occurred December 1, 2023. Charges include a felony count of sexual abuse of a minor and misdemeanor charges of second-degree assault and attempted sexual abuse in the 4th degree by a person in a position of authority. Shank is awaiting trial, after a criminal summons was issued on June 20th.
