World War II veteran Ray Svejnoha never got to go to his prom thanks to being called up for active duty and when a group of students at Metea Valley High School in Aurora, Illinois heard the 100-year-old’s story, they came up with a plan. They did a promposal with a sign reading “82 years late, but right on time.” Then the community got involved and Svejnoha received a haircut, manicure and tux fitting. Ray even rode to prom in a vintage trolley decked out in streamers and balloons and was greeted with cheers when he joined the students on the dance floor. After drinking in the moment, he told the crowd “I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this, and I love you all.”
