David Morgan has been elected Allegany County Sheriff, with nearly 73 per cent of votes cast during yesterday’s primary election. He defeated both Rich Godlove and Andrew Opel. The three incumbent county commissioners were the top vote getters in the primary, with Dave Caporale receiving over 3200 votes; Both Creade Brodie and Bill Atkinson had over 2500 votes each. On the Democratic side, Chelsea Boor received over 1450 votes, to just over 1200 for Carol Taccino. In the Cumberland Mayoral primary, incumbent Mayor Ray Morriss received over 1,000 votes, or about 56 per cent of votes cast; he will be opposed by Darrell Lee Powell, who garnered about 25 per cent of the vote. And, in the District1-A race, Dan Duggan will run against Jason Jobe, to fill the seat being vacated by Jim Hinebaugh. Duggan received over 400 votes to 285 for Jobe.
