Maryland Democrats are praising a federal judge’s order to release Kilmar Abrego Garcia from ICE custody, while Republicans are blasting the decision. In Greenbelt, Judge Paula Xinis ruled Thursday that ICE had “re-detained” Abrego Garcia without lawful authority after the Prince George’s County resident was mistakenly deported earlier this year. Senator Chris Van Hollen called the ruling a victory for due process, but Congressman Andy Harris said Abrego Garcia has “no business roaming free” given his alleged criminal ties. The Baltimore Sun reports the government was ordered to release him by 5 p.m. Thursday.
